Academic Programs

Montessori education recognizes that children are constantly growing and changing—physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually. Because of this, the way we support a child’s learning should change with them. What engages and challenges a toddler will look very different from what supports an elementary-aged child.

While the lessons and materials evolve to meet children where they are developmentally, the foundational principles of Montessori remain consistent. At every age, children are given opportunities to explore, make meaningful choices, develop independence, and build a deep understanding of the world around them.

At Walnut Farm, we don’t expect every child to learn in exactly the same way. We observe, we listen, and we prepare the environment to meet children where they are—helping each child grow into the capable, confident person they are becoming.

At every level we believe:

  • Individualized Learning: Students progress at their own pace, engaging with lessons and materials that meet them where they are developmentally.
  • Multi-Age Classrooms: Students of different ages learn and grow together in a collaborative community.
  • Three-Year Cycles: Students remain with the same Montessori guide for a full three-year cycle, allowing meaningful relationships and trust to develop over time.
  • The Role of the Guide: Montessori guides are observers, facilitators, and supporters of learning.
  • A Culture of Curiosity & Joy: Children are encouraged to ask questions, explore their interests, solve problems, and take ownership of their learning—cultivating curiosity, independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
